Lawyers lock courts protesting against nomination in FIR

LAHORE:

A group of lawyers locked the main gate of District and Sessions Court as a protest against police for lodging an FIR against them for allegedly beating a sub-inspector here on Thursday.

A two-day back, Abdul Qayuum,  Sub-Inspector of Harbanspura police came to sessions court to submit report about a detainee.

However, his report submission annoyed lawyers who took him out of the court room, dragged him and later thrashed him. The officer went to Islampura Police station and got an FIR registered against the lawyers who beat him.

The lawyers against whom the FIR was registered included Waheed Awan, Nasrullah Pasha and others.

On Thursday, the lawyers locked the main gate of the district and sessions court as a protest against the FIR and blocked the entry and exit points of the courts at  9:00 am and this continued till 1:00 pm.

The lawyers also chanted slogans against police officials and Lahore Bar Association (LBA)’s representatives Saleem Ladhi and  Ghulam Abas Sahir.

The incident caused serious panic among the litigants and people present there on the spot. The bar representatives also failed to stop protesting lawyers from blocking the entry and exit of the courts’ premises.
