Suzuki to invest $450 million in Pakistan

KARACHI – Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) Chairman Osamu Suzuki on Tuesday expressed his interest to invest $450 million in setting up a second production plant in Karachi.

A delegation of Suzuki Motors Corp on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan at Prime Minister’s Office.

The delegation included Mr. Osamu Suzuki, Global Chairman Suzuki, Mr. Kinji Saito, Mr. Masafumi Harano, Mr. Shigeo Takezawa, Mr. Yusuke Katto and Mr. Shafiq A Shaikh. Ambassador of Japan Mr. Takashi Kurai was also present during the meeting.

The Prime Minister while appreciating the contribution of Suzuki Motors in the automobile sector said that the present Government is committed to private sector development, investment promotion, improving ease of doing business and growth of manufacturing sector.

Delegation of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) headed by Osamu Suzuki Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad (27.11.18)#PrimeMinisterImranKhanPrime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday said the government was committed to private sector development, investment promotion, improving ease of doing business and growth of manufacturing sector.He was talking to delegation of Suzuki Motors Corp. that called on him here at the Prime Minister’s Office.The delegation included Osamu Suzuki, Global Chairman Suzuki, Kinji Saito, Masafumi Harano, Shigeo Takezawa, Yusuke Katto and Shafiq A Shaikh.Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai was also present during the meeting, PM Office media wing in a press release said.The delegation briefed the Prime Minister about the existing investment of Suzuki Motors Corp. and the future investment plans in the country.The Prime Minister was also apprised about the plan for construction of second plant by the company to manufacture additional 100,000 vehicles per year.The Prime Minister appreciated the contribution of Suzuki Motors in the automobile sector and assured the delegation of continued support of the government in availing the existing business opportunities in the country.وزیراعظم عمران خان سے سوزوکی موٹرز کارپوریشن کے ایک وفد نے منگل کو وزیراعظم سیکرٹریٹ میں ملاقات کی۔ وزیراعظم سے ملاقات کرنے والے وفد میں سوزوکی کے گلوبل چیئرمین اوسیمو سوزوکی، کن جی ساتو، ماسافومی ہرانوں، شی جیوتاکیزاوا، یوسوکی کاٹو اور شفیق اے شیخ شامل تھے۔ پاکستان میں جاپان کے سفیر تاکاشی کورائی بھی ملاقات کے دوران موجود تھے۔ سوزوکی موٹرز کارپوریشن کے وفد نے وزیراعظم کو سوزوکی موٹرز کی ملک میں موجودہ سرمایہ کاری اور مستقبل میں سرمایہ کاری کی منصوبہ بندی سے آگاہ کیا۔ وزیراعظم کو کمپنی کی طرف سے سوزوکی کے دوسرے پلانٹ کی تعمیر کے منصوبہ سے بھی آگاہ کیا تاکہ سالانہ ایک لاکھ اضافی گاڑیاں تیار کی جا سکیں۔ وزیراعظم نے آٹو موبائل کے شعبہ میں سوزوکی موٹرز کے کردار کو سراہتے ہوئے کہا کہ موجودہ حکومت نجی شعبہ کی ترقی، سرمایہ کاری کے فروغ، کاروبار کیلئے آسانی میں بہتری اور مینوفیکچرنگ کی گروتھ کیلئے پرعزم ہے۔ وزیراعظم نے وفد کو ملک میں موجودہ کاروباری مواقع سے استفادہ کیلئے حکومت کے تعاون کو جاری رکھنے کی یقین دہانی کرائی۔

Once the factory is established the company will be able to manufacture additional 100,000 vehicles a year.

During the first four months of the current financial year 2018-19, the sales of Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) declined significantly by 8.3% as it sold only 42,914 units compared to 46,491 units sold during the same period last year.

The sale of Suzuki Mehran, Suzuki Bolan and Ravi declined by up to 23%, 22%, and 21% respectively in the last four months.

However, during the same period, Suzuki Cultus and WagonR supported the company as their sales enhanced by 9% and 21% respectively.
