LONDON – Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has regained consciousness, Hussian Nawaz confirmed on Thursday.

“Today my mother opened her eyes the first time after one month,” Hussain Nawaz told media in London. “For some time her ventilator settings and sedatives were being reduced,” he added.

“She is still unconscious. Blinked her and don’t know she saw us or not. Prayers requested,” tweeted daughter Maryam Nawaz.

Begum Kulsoom had been unconscious and in critical condition after she suffered a cardiac arrest last month. She is being treated at the Harley Street Clinic in London.

In August 2017, Kulsoom Nawaz was diagnosed with lymphoma (throat) cancer and has undergone several chemotherapy sessions.

Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz have been in London prior to Eid-ul-Fitr and are expected to return tomorrow (Friday).

Nawaz and Maryam will be arrested upon arrival in Pakistan following their sentencing in the Avenfield Reference case.
