I was victimised, asserts Nehal Hashmi after walking out of jail
ISLAMABAD - Nehal Hashmi, the former senator of ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz asserted on Wednesday that he was victimised, referring to the top court decision handed down earlier this month.

Talking to newsmen after he was released from the Adiala Jail, the PML-N leader expressed that he had appealed against the jail term, on the day it was announced, however, the case was not fixed for the hearing.

"This is the height of oppression, this is the state of this country," said Hashmi who was showered with rose petals.

Hashmi, who just completed the sentence awarded by the apex court regarding his anti-judiciary remarks alleged that the National Accountability Bureau was the most corrupt institution in the country.

He observed that the prisons were filled with 75-year-old men and people who needed by-pass surgery and those targeted by NAB.

Expressing his allegiance with the former Premier Nawaz Sharif, Hashmi declared that only the Almighty Allah could bar him from working under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.

"Conspirers! you are not the handlers of my life and livelihood," noted the former legislator.

"Who are you holding accountable? And who are you anyway? I stand by what I said [earlier]," he vowed in a defiant tone.

To a query whether he was 'ashamed' of his statement that sent him behind bars, Hashmi declared that only a 'fraud, thief or a person who took undue advantage of power would be embarrassed'.

Let it be known that the Supreme Court had awarded one-month imprisonment to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nehal Hashmi and disqualified him for five years in the contempt of court case, on February 1st.

The court in his verdict, also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 while the police took the former senator into custody and shifted him to jail.

The court ruled that Hashmi could not hold public office for five years according to Article 63(1)(g) of the Constitution.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Justices Dost Mohammad and Maqbool Baqar announced the verdict, which was not unanimous as Justice Dost Mohammad wrote a dissenting note in the case.

The bench rejected his unconditional apology, which the senator has submitted to the court on Jan 24 through his counsel for his threatening speech against “those grilling” former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members.

Nehal Hashmi’s Outrageous Speech

In a video that went viral on the internet shows a disgruntled Senator  Nehal warning rivals and ‘some honourable officials associated with top institutions’ of dire consequences if they continued their concerns with the accountability of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Whoever is asking for accountability will retire tomorrow and we will deal with them,” insinuated Hashmi in a veiled threat to the top judiciary currently probing the ruling Sharif family in the backdrop of Panama papers.

“Those grilling… [be warned that] we will arrange the day of judgment for you.”

“You are making the life of the prime minister difficult. The Pakistani nation will make it difficult for you to live,” he added, without taking any names.
