KARACHI – Large crowds of people participated in the funeral prayers of singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed, who died in the PK-661 air crash last week, at AKD Ground. He was buried at Darul-Uloom, Korangi area.

His funeral prayers were led by religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel. “I cannot believe that Junaid is no longer with us,” said Jameel.

The funeral was scheduled to be held at Moin Khan Academy but the venue was changed to AKD Ground earlier today.

Former cricketer Saeed Anwar and MQM leader Farooq Sattar, along with thousands of well-wishers gathered to pay their respects to Junaid.

Heavy contingents of Rangers and police have been deployed at the venue.

Junaid was travelling from Chitral to Islamabad in flight PK-661 when the aircraft crashed near Abbottabad, killing all 48 people on board on December 7. His body was identified through facial X-ray and dental records on December 12.

The body of Nahya Jamshed, his wife, has been transferred to CMH Lahore, according to brother-in-law Dr. Faisal. Her funeral prayers will be offered in a mosque near her residence in Askari 10.

She will be buried in Cavalry Ground graveyard, while a Rasm-e-Qul will be held in Islamabad.
