ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The International Labour Day is being observed tomorrow with the pledge to work for the welfre of the working class.

The theme this year is: “Celebrating the international labour movement”.

The day is aimed at paying tributes to workers’ sacrifices in achieving economic and social rights all over the world.

Seminars and rallies will be held in different cities to pay tribute to those who laid down their lives in Chicago in 1886 for the rights of the labourers.

Labour and traders organizations have chalked out special programmes to highlight significance of the Labour Day.

The government has launched various programs for the welfare of workers including Social Security Network, Old Age Benefit Schemes and Workers Welfare Fund.

Pakistan’s constitution also contains various provisions and articles about labour rights.

Pakistan’s first labor policy was devised in 1972, in which May 1 was declared an official public holiday.
