Lahore choked as religious group announces protest rally on Taseer’s death anniversary
LAHORE - Lahore is experiencing a beavy traffic jam as all major roads have been blocked with containers in order to prevent any violent situation following the rally of Tehreek Labbaik Ya RasoolAllah on the eve of death anniversary of the former governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer.
The religious group has announced a rally on the 6th death anniversary of slain Punjab governor Salaman Taseer. The group has demanded that a ban should be imposed on lighting candles for the killed governor, who allegedly committed blasphemy. The rally will start from Kalma Chowk and end at Liberty Chowk.
The former governor was shot dead by his bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri, on January 4, 2011, allegedly because Taseer had defended a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, who was accused of blasphemy.
It is important to mention here that political figures and civil society activists are also going to hold programs to commemorate Taseer.
A few days ago, wishing Christmas to the blasphemy accused, Aasia Bibi, landed the son of slain Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer in huge trouble.
Meanwhile, Sunni Tehreek had also issued a Fatwa against Shaan for allegedly committing blasphemy as well as apostasy.
The Fatwa alleges that Shaan, in the video, had called for prayers for Aasia Bibi and Nabeel Masih, and therefore, committed apostasy and blasphemy. The Fatwa further declared Shaan to be "Wajib-ul-Qatal" (liable to death) under Islamic law.
