Main eye-witness in Sabeen Mahmud's murder case shot dead

KARACHI (Staff Report) - A main eye-witness in the murder case of prominent rights activist Sabeen Mahmud was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Karachi, police said.

Ghulam Abbas, who worked as a part-time driver for Ms Mahmud, was also a police constable. He was a key witness to to the killing of Ms Mahmud on April 24.

Police are speculating various angels in Abbas's murder.

According to Counter-Terrorism Department official Raja Umer Khattab, responsible for arresting accused in Safoora Goth massacre, Abbas's murder was "an act of targeted killing".

DSP Rao Iqbal said that it looks like Abbas was killed over some personal matter.

CTD official Khattab said that Abbas's murder raises the importance of protection of other witnesses in the case.
