Maryam Nawaz tweets: ‘I am your daughter, trained by you, will neither cower down, nor yield to pressure’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday vowed neither to “cower down nor yield to pressure” in her appearance before Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

The JIT probing offshore properties of the Sharif family has summoned Maryam Nawaz to appear before it for the first time on July 5, Wednesday.

In a series of tweets today, Maryam Nawaz said that her father has seen and been through “most testing times, in the 30+ years of his political career acing out his rivals” yet as an affectionate and protective father, she saw his eyes filled with concern and apprehensions over his daughter’s appearance before JIT.

“I told him that I am your daughter, trained by you, will neither cower down, nor yield to pressure & nothing will deter me from taking up the cudgels against transgression and injustice. Will appear before the JIT, follow the rule of law as you always have,” Maryam Nawaz wrote on Twitter.

Maryam Nawaz will appear today for the first time before the Supreme Court-appointed team probing the Panamagate graft case.

Maryam, 43, will appear with a female police officer before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigating the high-profile Panamagate graft case. A German newspaper had earlier said that Maryam is a beneficial owner of offshore companies named in Panama Papers.

In 2013, Maryam was active in the general election campaign. She also made into the BBC’s 100 Women list of political scions along with US President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump in March.

The six-member investigation committee had written to the Inspector General of Police for deployment of a woman police over Maryam’s appearance after which Ursala Saleem, SP of Special Branch was tasked for the day, Dunya news reported.

Today, Sharif’s elder son Hussain Nawaz appeared before the committee for the sixth time.

Hasan, Sharif’s younger son, was summoned twice.
