ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s envoy-designate to the United States, Ali Jahangir Siddiqui, will leave for America tonight (Saturday) to assume his new charge.
According to media reports, a diplomatic passport has been issued to Siddiqui, who will take over charge from predecessor Aizaz Chaudhary on May 29.
Siddiqui is an investment banker by profession and currently works as a special assistant to prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Aizaz Chaudhry will come back to Pakistan on May 29, ending his services.
Soon after his nomination, Ali was summoned by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), accusing him of causing a loss of Rs40 billion to national exchequer through ‘embezzlement’.
A case challenging his appointment is also pending with the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The petitioner had claimed that Siddiqui was not appointed on the basis of merit.
