Panama case: Supreme court postpones hearing till first week of January
ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday postponed proceedings of the Panama Leaks case till the first week of January 2017.

A five-member bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed hearing of the Panama Leaks case on Friday on petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and other parties.

According to details, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said, during a hearing pertaining to the case on Friday, that he was retiring on Dec. 31 of this year, hence he would not be part of any bench after the full court reference. PTI's attorney Naeem Bukhari said that if a judicial commission was formed by the Supreme Court, the party would boycott it.

"Proceedings of the case will be held anew," said the Chief Justice.

"We have made our case, the court should give its verdict on it," said Naeem Bukhari. "If we are not able to make a good case, then the decision should be given according to law," he added. He further stated that the decision of the judiciary would be a historic one.

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, said in cases which pertain to the public interest, a heavy responsibility is on the court. He stated that the court do not want any aggrieved party to claim that they were not heard by the Supreme Court.

"One party said that it would support the commission, the other protested against it. If we deem the documents submitted as authentic, the aggrieved party would say that it was not heard properly," he said.

Justice Azmat remarked that the judiciary would have to go through the thousands of pages that were submitted by both parties.
