ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Kaghan Valley received heavy snow during the past 24 hours blocking the road between Naran and Balakot.

As a result, hundreds of tourists have stranded in the area.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed concerned officials to ensure safe evacuation of tourists stranded in heavy snow.

He directed the Interior Secretary to contact the Chief Secretary Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for help to the stranded tourists.

Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority has decided to start helicopter service to rescue the tourists tomorrow, as it is difficult to fly helicopters in the darkness.

The NDMA has also asked the National Highway Authority to clear the road between Naran and Balakot, which has been blocked by heavy snow.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Adviser Amjad Farooqui said work on removing snow from the road has been started.
