Elections 2018

LAHORE – Fawad Chaudhry, the spokesperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has been allowed to take part in the upcoming general elections scheduled on July 25.

The Lahore High Court announced the decision in Fawad’s favour on Thursday, a day after the election tribunal had declared the politician ineligible to contest the elections.

The tribunal had accepted the objections filed by Justice and Democratic Party’s Fakhar Abbas Kazmi, rejecting the nomination papers of the leader who is eyeing a National Assembly seat from Jhelum district of Punjab.

Kazmi had argued that Chaudhry had not paid agriculture tax on his land adding that PTI leader’s name on his identity card was listed as ‘Fawad Ahmad’.

Fawad had moved Lahore High Court, which allowed him to take part in the cut-throat electoral battle.

Speaking to the media after the LHC judgment, Chauhdry said that those who were celebrating his disqualification were now hiding their faces.
