ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s former skipper and Peshawar Zalmi batsman Shahid Afridi parted ways with PSL season 2 champions Peshawar Zalmi here on Friday.

The flamboyant all-rounder took to Twitter to announce the decision that left many cricket fans in shock owing to his successful career with Peshawar Zalmi.

The all-rounder cited personal reasons for his detachment from the PSL season 2 champions.

“Won the cup with 1 team, time for another. I am announcing my end of service as president & player of Peshawar Zalmi Team due to my personal reasons,” the former Pakistan captain posted on his Twitter account on Friday night.

With the surprising announcement, Afridi would no more be a player and president of Peshawar Zalmi.

The 36-years-old player was the captain of Zalmi team during the first season of PSL but he handed over the captaincy to West Indian player Darren Sammy for the recently concluded edition.

Afridi is currently in Dubai to hang out with his friends.

It may be mentioned here that Afridi entertained cricket fans during PSL season 2 through Peshawar Zalmi team but in June, last year, he hinted at the possibility of leaving Peshawar Zalmi.

‘I am a professional cricketer and whichever franchise needs me I am available for it. It is not that I am confined to Peshawar Zalmi only’ he said in an interview with Cricket Australia.

‘No doubt that my current team is Zalmi but before moving forward I need to sort out some things with Javed Afridi’ Afridi added.
