Shehbaz Sharif released from sub-jail
ISLAMABAD - Former chief minister Punjab, Mian Shehbaz Sharif was released from the minister's enclave in Islamabad on Friday after National Accountability Bureau obtained the Lahore High court's orders for his release.

The PML-N leader upon his release from the minister's enclave, declared a sub-jail by the capital administration, proceeded to the new Islamabad International Airport from where he will fly to Lahore.

The Lahore High Court had accepted Sharif's request for bail in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme and Ramzan Sugar Mills cases on Thursday.

Shahbaz was taken into custody by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore in connection with the Ashiana Housing case on October 5, 2018. He was accused of misuse of authority by awarding a contract to an ineligible firm that resulted in the failure of the housing scheme.

Shehbaz had filed a bail plea in the LHC in January stating that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the case contrary to the law.

The case was made on political grounds, the opposition leader in the national assembly had contended in the petition while mentioning medical reasons as well.

Shahbaz was sent on judicial remand after the accountability court denied the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) request for further physical remand on Dec 6.

The bureau had kept Shahbaz in custody for over 80 days since his arrest and the politician had expressed in his speech that there was an unholy nexus between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the bureau.

Production orders were issued for the former chief minister Punjab by the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser multiple times.

Shehbaz Sharif was also appointed as the chairman of Public Accounts Committee though the government is actively considering to remove him from the position.
