LAHORE (Staff Report) – Aitchison College’s acting principal Syed Amir Hussain has been formally asked to prove the legitimacy of his elevation after Principal Dr Agha Ghazanfar’s forced ouster.
He will also have to provide the notification of his appointment as the acting principal.
In a legal notice to Amir Hussain, Supreme Court lawyer Mustafa Ramday – who is also one of members of the college’s Board of Governors – has grilled the acting principal about an application filed in LHC against the stay order provided to the sacked principal, Dr Agha Ghazanfar.
Dr Ghazanfar had challenged the BoGs decision of his unceremonious removal from the Principal office, and had obtained a stay order against his ouster. However, the acting principal barred his entry to the college some two weeks ago.
Till the surfacing of this legal notice, it was speculated that the Board of Governors itself appointed Amir Hussain as the acting principal.
An un-named applicant recently challenged the LHC stay order and filed a civil miscellaneous application, through M/s Tariq Rahim & Associates. The application was signed by a single applicant although underneath it mentions ‘Respondents/Applicants’.
Ramday, in the notice, has questioned the acting principal about who instructed M/s Tariq Rahim & Associates to file the application against the stay order.
Besides asking who signed the Power of Attorney, Ramday has asked Amir Hussain about the single applicant whose name is undisclosed in the application but has signed the application on behalf of all the members of BoGs – mentioned as ‘Respondents/Applicants’.
The SC lawyer has also enquired under what and whose authority did Amir Hussain appear before the LHC Oath Commissioner, Mr Pervaiz Majeed, and swore and sign the said affidavit especially when the BoGs has been admittedly sued.
Being the college’s board member, Ramday is blank about any such move by the BoGs against the stay order given to Dr Agha Ghazanfar.
If the BoGs moved the application on behalf of all the Respondents that include board members, who do not subscribe to the majority decision of BoG against Dr Ghazanfar, why not Mustafa Ramday knew about it.
And if the acting principal filed the application on behalf of BoGs, then he did criminal act as the board members never agreed on such provocation.
A suit will be filed once the acting principal replied to this legal notice.
Interestingly, scions of some of the most influential families of the country, including grandsons of Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, were going to sit the test this year.
However, the children of these political leaders failed to get admission in the prestigious institution as they failed to obtain the required score – Sadiq’s grandson Ayan Sadiq scored 18.78 per cent while Gilani’s grandson Miran Mustafa Gilani obtained 40.22 per cent, much lower than the cutoff score to gain admission.
Syed Amir Hussain could not be reached for comments.
