LAHORE – A local news channel Kohenoor TV has hired a transgender newscaster in Pakistan. This would be the first time something like this has happened in the country.

Shiraz Hassan, a senior Pakistani journalist who is associated with BBC news took to his twitter to break the news.

“Pakistan’s first news caster on screen now -Maavia Malik”: wrote Shiraz along with Maavia’s picture.

However Shiraz hasn’t given any further details as yet.

However, according to our sources, Maavia Malik has already walked the ramp for the PFDC Sunsilk fashion week that just passed.

The upper house of Parliment (Senate) recently approved a bill for protection and empowerment for transgender community.

By estimation of Trans Action Pakistan, the number of transgender person is atleast 500,000 (estimate) out of 190 million people in the country.

So far, Twitter has had a positive response to the news.

Also, love from across the border.
