Ayesha Gulalai’s sister appreciates Imran Khan for support

  • I appreciate Imran Khan's action: Maria Toorpakay Wazir

LAHORE – Squash champion Maria Toorpakay Wazir appreciated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s tweet restricting his party workers from attacking her after disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Ayesha Gulalai, who happens to be sister of Wazir, unleashed a tirade of allegations against Imran Khan.

Toorpakay Wazir In a brief conversation with newsmen at Squash Complex in Lahore said she appreciates Khan’s tweet as it stands for the fact that national athletes are to be respected and are apolitical.

“I really appreciate his action,” Maria said.

The Squash player became a target of PTI fans on social media after her sister Ayesha Gulalai alleged Imran Khan of unwelcome advances.

Gulalai, in her explosive presser earlier this month claimed that PTI supremo Imran Khan sent her immoral text messages.

“Women workers are not respected in the PTI and a respectable woman worker cannot remain in the party,” she alleged.

“Imran Khan once used deplorable words for Benazir Bhutto,” she said and added: “I think it is highly wrong to use such words for someone who has passed away. Even Islam teaches us not to say anything bad about people who have passed away.”

Gulalai, who unleashed a tirade of scathing allegations against PTI bigwigs including the chairman Imran Khan, revealed that she received a marriage proposal from Naeem Ul Haque while substantiating her claims that PTI was being disrespectful towards women.

Soon after Gulalai hurled scathing allegations against the PTI supremo, staunch supporters of party rose to defend their party chief and began sharing pictures of Gulalai’s sister playing squash in an outfit designed specifically for the sport.

By sharing multiple pictures of her sister, the ardent supporters questioned how Gulalai could defend this ‘westernisation’ in her own home at a time when she was accusing Imran Khan of promoting the Western culture in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

However, the counter narrative, was lampooned by social media buffs and journalists.

The party chief then ‘requested’ supporters to refrain from targeting the renowned squash player, Maria Toorpakay Wazir.
