ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to girl and her mother who were being held for sending indecent messages and pictures to the girl’s aunt.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad heard the case.
According to Express Tribune, the court was told that Maria Naz and Shazia Begum had been in Adiala Jail for the last two months after an FIR was registered against them on January 5 under sections 36, 37 ETO 2002, R/W109 PPC.
However, the women’s counsel Zulfiqar Bhutta stated that none of the sections of the law applied to the circumstances of the case. He argued that both the families were mired in a property dispute and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had filed the case under irrelevant provisions.
The FIA lawyer told the court that the women had reproduced pictures of the girl’s paternal aunt and sent them ahead which was illegal. The court dismissed the case by remarking that the officials had failed to prove stolen data in the case.
The court granted bail to both the accused after they submitted surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.
Earlier on April 27, the Islamabad High Court rejected bail plea of the accused and ordered completion of the trial within one month.
In November 2013, police had booked a man for sending vulgar text messages to another man in Rawalpindi’s RA Bazaar area.
