LAHORE – Muslims around the globe are observing the Holy Month of Ramazan with reverence, however, many of them have a query in their minds that can a person fast without having suhoor (sehri)?

If a person has the intention of waking up for the suhoor, unfortunately, he or she does not manage to wake up is his or her fast still accepted is a question bothering many of the devotees.

According to Islamic injunctions, if a person has an intention of waking up for suhoor and fast before sleeping but he fails to get up, he can fast because having suhoor is Sun’nah, not obligatory and his fast will be accepted.

– Sahih Al Bukhari Vol. 3 Book of Fasting Hadith 1923

Narrated Anas bin Malik, The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “(late night meals) as there is a blessing in it.” – Sahih Al Bukhari Vol. 3 Book of Fasting Hadith 1923.

So, if for reasons one fails to wake up due to oversleeping and then wakes up in the morning, he can observe fast, provided he can physically manage it.
