KARACHI – The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday conducted a raid in Lyari area and claimed to have arrested five terrorists belonging to a proscribed organisation, ARY News reported.

DSP CTD Operation-1 Abdul Hafeez Junejo said the suspects allegedly belonged to the proscribed Sipah-e-Sahaba and were plotting a terror attack in the city, which has been foiled.

He said that the CTD acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off and arrested them. A large amount of grendades and other explosive material was recovered.

Junejo said the suspects also confessed to acts of target killing in Aziz Bhatti area. They were also involved in armed robberies to raise funds for their terror activities.

He said that further interrogation of the suspects is underway. They are said to be involved in firing incident on SHO Amanullah Marwat.
