"Don't tie suspects with ropes in court," unique resolution submitted in Punjab Assembly

LAHORE - In a unique resolution, a Punjab assembly lawmaker has demanded the government to ensure that suspects be presented in local courts in handcuffs instead of tying their hands with ropes.

The resolution was submitted by Pakistan Peoples Party legislator from PP-294 Mukhdoom Syed Murtaza Mehmood who stated that despite the allocation of hefty funds ranging in billions to Punjab police, suspected criminals were presented before the courts with their hands tied with ropes.

"Presenting criminals in this fashion poses a serious question about the performance of the department," read the resolution submitted by the son of former Punjab governor Makhddom Ahmed Mehmood.

The resolution calls on the provincial government to provide an adequate amount of handcuffs to police stations across the province so that the criminals can be presented before the courts safely.

The Punjab police department gets a lion's share of the provincial budget but its performance does not seem to up to the mark.

Multiple incidents have been reported in past where police officials used ropes instead of handcuffs to relocate prisoners.
