ISLAMABAD (Staff report) – The Federal Ministry for Water and Power on Thursday said that electricity shortfall in the country had surged to 3,000 megawatt.

According to a statement, 15,000 megawatt electricity is currently being produced in the country through all available means. However, a total of 18,000 megawatts of electricity was required to meet national demand.

It further said that eight hours of loadshedding had been scheduled in rural areas and six hours in the urban areas to plug the shortfall of electricity.

It added that areas where power theft and non-payment of bills is common were facing longer power outages.
