Pillion riding banned in Lahore on Youm-e-Ali
LAHORE - The Punjab government on Sunday has banned pillion riding in Lahore for two days on Sunday and Monday (May 26 and May 27) on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali.

A notification has been issued on the request of Deputy Commissioner Lahore in this regard.

According to a notification, the provincial government has imposed the ban under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

The ban will not be applicable on women, children under 12, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies, security agencies in uniform and employees of essential services.

Youm-e-Ali, observed on the 21st of Ramzan, sees large processions across the country commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA).

Four-layer security will be provided by utilising all available resources for arrangements of mourning processions and Majalis.

No mourners will be allowed to enter procession before checking by walk-through gates and metal detectors. Snipers will be deployed on ways of the procession with commandos will be deployed on routes of processions.

More than 39,255 officials and volunteers will perform security on Yum-e-Ali (RA) across Punjab.

Meanwhile, issuing directions to Provincial Cabinet Committee for law and order, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has directed to ensure foolproof security arrangements on Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Ali (RA).

He said that every step should be taken to ensure peace and protection of life and property of people.

Pakistani rupee rate against US Dollar, Euro, Pound, Riyal - Check 20 April forex rates

Pakistani currency remains marginally same against US Dollar and other currencies on April 20, 2024. US dollar was being quoted at 277.5 for buying and 280.5 for selling.

Euro comes down to 293 for buying and 296 for selling while British Pound stands at 342.25 for buying, and 345.65 for selling.

UAE Dirham AED was at 75.25 and Saudi Riyal's new rates was at 73.30.
