KARACHI (Web Desk) – Death toll in Karachi heatwave mounted to 12,00 with 24 more deaths in last 24 hours.

About 15 people lost their lives since Saturday night in the government and private hospitals.

The majority of the deaths in Karachi have been among the elderly, the poor and manual labourers. Expert doctor Qaiser Sajjad said that a lack of understanding of heatstroke among the public  had contributed to the deaths.

“The main reason was a lack of awareness among the public since no-one knew how to cope in such a situation,” Dr Sajjad held.

The situation has not been helped by power cuts  which have stopped fans and air conditioners from working and interrupted Karachi´s water supply.
