Kashmiris observing Black Day on India's Independence Day

SRINAGAR - Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world are marking India’s Independence Day on Tuesday (August 15) as a Black Day protesting its atrocities in the valley.

The people of Kashmir are observing the day in order to expose India, which has occupied a large part of the state forcefully and usurped their right to self-determination.

"Anti-India rallies followed by protest demonstrations in all small and major cities and towns at both sides of the LoC, will be the hall mark of the day," Chairman National Events Organizing Committee (NEOC) Raja Farooq Akram told APP here on Monday.

Participants of the protest rallies will wear black bands around their arms to show their hatred against India, while black flags will also be hoisted atop the buildings.

A complete strike, called by resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, will be observed today in occupied Kashmir.

On the other hand, telephone and internet services have been suspended in the valley to prevent people from organising protests.
