First sentence under Cyber Crime Bill in Lahore

LAHORE - In first verdict over cybercrimes in the Punjab capital city, a sessions court Tuesday sentenced a man for two years in jail and also imposed a fine of Rs30,000 on him.

Yasir Latif was proven guilty of photoshopping the pictures of different girls before uploading on Internet.

In Pakistan, numerous sorts of cyber crimes exist like that of cyber stalking and identity theft and women are the biggest victims of cyber criminals. A number of Pakistani women and girls use social media to socialize with their friends and family or for the professional purposes.

In August this year, Pakistan’s National Assembly passed the controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill (PECB) 2015, also known as Cyber Crime Bill Pakistan 2016, after the Senate's unanimous adoption of the bill - with 50 amendments - earlier in July.

According to the bill, Cyber stalking can cost a person up to 3 years in jail or up to Rs1 million in fine, or both.

Also, making videos/pics and distributing without consent can cost a person up to three years in jail or up to Rs1m in fine, or both.
