Mosque imam arrested for allegedly raping, killing student in Thal

HANGU – Police have apprehended the prayer leader of a local mosque in Thal Tehsil and his aide for allegedly sexually abusing and then killing a seminary student, local media reported.

According to police, parents of the boy, 11-year-old Yasir Shah lodged an FIR after they failed to find him after a few days.

After the complaint, investigations were launched during which the officials found CCTV footage. The official observed in the footage that the deceased boy regularly visited the imam, sometimes twice a day.

On suspicion, police took the prayer leader, who hails from Lakki Marwat. into custody. The imam confessed to sexually assaulting and killing the boy during the interrogation.

An accomplice was also detained after the main suspect divulged information during the investigation. The aide has also admitted his role in the rape-cum-murder case.

The partially decomposed body of the boy has been recovered from the foothills of the tehsil following information given by the accused.
