Nawaz Sharif condemns assault on private TV cameraman, directs immediate medical aid
ISLAMABAD - Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the assault on a cameraman associated with a private TV channel on Monday.

In a statement, the supreme leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz expressed that he was saddened at the incident and had directed the party leaders to arrange medical treatment for the journalist.

'Me and my party respects journalists,' the senior Sharif asserted.

The politician clarified that he would not tolerate any individual displaying such attitude as his staff member. He assured that measures would be taken to avoid such type of incident in future.

Earlier, a cameraman associated with Samaa TV was severely injured when he was assaulted by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s security guards as he was leaving the Parliament House.

The video shows the guards chasing the cameraman, who ran away to save himself but was eventually caught by the security guards who kicked him in the face.

The cameraman was shifted to the Poly Clinic hospital. He was in an unconscious condition with a bleeding nose.

Irked by the torture, journalists caught one of the guards and handed him over to the Parliament House security while another guard managed to flee the scene.

Afterwards, journalists staged a sit-in outside the parliament and blocked Parliament’s Gate No.1 entrance.

‘We will not call off the protest until the security guard is arrested,’ demanded the journalists.

National Assembly Speaker, Asad Qaiser ordered to lodge an FIR against the guard in question and directed that no one would be allowed to be escorted by private security inside the parliament house.

The writer is a civil servant.
