ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday said that schedule for by-poll in the constituency of NA-120, which fell vacant after Supreme Court of disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif, will be issued next week.
The commission is bound to hold the elections on any vacant seat within 60 days. It added that by-polls are expected in September this year.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for not disclosing his employment with FZE Capital, in a landmark decision in the Panamagate case.
The 5-o verdict was announced by a five-judge bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa – the same judge who had commenced his dissenting note in the April 20 judgment with a quote from The Godfather, a novel by Mario Puzo about a mafia family in Italy. The verdict declared Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ‘disqualified’ for concealing his employment.
It is important to mention here that Nawaz Sharif had bagged 91,683 votes in 2013 General Elections.
Ruling party and opposition parties are holding meetings to select their candidates, who will contest the by-elections.
