Pakistan seeks Altaf Hussain's custody in Imran Farooq murder case

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has decided to formally ask United Kingdom (UK) to hand over Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain to authorities in Pakistan.

The interior ministry would approach the Interpol for issuing red warrants of Altaf Hussain,  who is wanted in the Imran Farooq murder case, local media reported.

FIA will write a letter to the Interpol for the red warrants of MQM founder and an approval has been given in this regard.

The Ministry of Interior has sent a request for the MQM founder's custody to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will forward the request to UK authorities.

Along with the request, the Ministry of Interior has also submitted the challan in the Imran Farooq murder case, the joint investigation team’s report and related documents.

Imran Farooq, 50, was stabbed to death outside his house in London on September 16, 2010.

A case pertaining to Farooq’s murder has been registered in the Federal Investigation Agency’s counter-terrorism wing.

Earlier today, British High Commissioner (HC) in  Pakistan Thomas Drew called on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss matters relating to cooperation in curbing organized crimes and the assets recovery.

In the meeting in Islamabad, matters pertaining to boosting bilateral trade and economic ties also came under discussion. The two sides also highlighted the need to enhance people to people contacts during the meeting.
