Met office warns of heavy rains, landslides, flash flooding
ISLAMABAD – The met office on Tuesday warned heavy rainfalls may trigger landslides in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir, besides causing flash flooding in local nullah/riverine of Balochistan and hill torrents of DG Khan Division on Wednesday.

A westerly wave is affecting the western and upper parts of the country, and likely to become stronger during next 12 to 24 hours and persist till Thursday in upper parts of the country, it said.

The met office forecast widespread thunderstorm rains with snowfall over hills in Balochistan, while at scattered places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Multan, D.G Khan divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

According to met office Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Makran, Sibbi, and Nasirabad divisions would receive widespread thunderstorm rains on Tuesday night. While scattered places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Multan, D.G Khan divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir would also receive rain during the said period.

The following minimum temperatures were recorded on Tuesday: Kalam -14 C, Gupis, Malamjabba, Bagrote -6 C, Skardu -5 C, Hunza, Dir, Drosh, Astore -3C, Mirkhani and Parachinar -2 C, Murree -1 C, Quetta 0 C, Muzaffarabad 2 C, Islamabad 4 C, Peshawar 5 C, Lahore 9 C and Karachi 21 C.

Widespread rain/thunderstorm with scattered heavy falls and snowfall over hills is expected in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while at scattered places in Sindh, including Karachi.

Pakistani currency saw minor adjustment against global currencies on April 19, 2024. US dollar was being quoted at 277.4 for buying and 280.4 for selling.

Euro comes down to 293 for buying and 296 for selling while British Pound stands at 342.25 for buying, and 345.65 for selling.

UAE Dirham AED was at 75.2 and Saudi Riyal's new rates was at 73.30.
