PIA faced Rs1.2 billion deficit on New-York route

ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs was informed on Wednesday that Pakistan International Airline (PIA) had faced a deficit of Rs 1.2 billion on the historic New-York route.

“PIA had faced the deficit of Rs 1.2 billion on the New-York route that way this historic route was closed,” PIA Chief Executive Officer told the committee which met under the supervision of Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal.

He added that PIA’s airlines are now being operating on profitable and money-making routes. However, the committee recommended that the New-York route should be started again after completion of lease and travelers should also provide better travailing facilities.

Moreover, PIA officials stated that organization has itself started work on changing the routes and routes that run on the deficit are closing down.

They further informed PIA has first time its business plan and under this plan, PIA is delivering better results for past three months.

The last flight of national flag-carrier landed in New York last October, ending a 56 years old flight operations to the United States.

PIA, with a fleet of 32 aircraft, is still operating at 28 international airports.
