ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be heading to United States today (Saturday) to attend 71st United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
The Premier will arrive in New York on September 19 via Denmark and will address the UNGA on September 21 to highlight issues regarding grave human rights violations and Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.He will also urge the world community to raise their voice against the Indian brutalities in the restive region.
The prime minister will urge the international community and the United Nations to fulfill the promise of the right to self determination of the people of J&K in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the Foreign Office said.
The Prime Minister would highlight Pakistan’s position, role and contribution on key international issues ranging from peace and security to development.
The annual session of the General Assembly has special significance as it is attended by a large number of Heads of States and governments.The Prime Minister will make a policy statement in the UNGA General Debate on 21 September.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders, including the UN Secretary General.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier maintained that the Kashmir issue would be fully highlighted at United Nations General Assembly session.
He was talking to Hurriyat leaders in Muzaffarabad on Friday. He assured that he would also take up the issue of Kashmir during his bilateral meetings with different world leaders.
The prime minister will return back on September 24.
