ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for Azad Kahsmir on one-day visit on Thursday to launch National Health Card Scheme.
The prime minister will address a ceremony at Medical College hall in Muzaffarabad.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Yaqoob Khan, Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, PML-N President Raja Farooq Haider and others will welcome the premier at Muzaffarabad airport.
PM Nawaz will be accompanied by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, State Minister Saira Afzal Tarar and other senior officials.
The PM’s visit comes after a week of tension between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party simmering in Azad Jammu and Kashmir after killing of a PPP worker in a clash between the workers of two parties in Kotli.
Sources told Daily Pakistan that PM Nawaz will hold meetings with Azad Kashmir leadership to cool off both sides.
On Feb 13, a PPP worker was killed and scores of others were injured in Nakyal area of Kotli.
Last week, Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed had given call of black day to protest against the federal ministers’ intervention in the region and killing of a PPP worker in clash.
The clash reportedly occurred in Nakyal Bazaar area when a procession of PPP workers was on its way to the venue of their rally scheduled to be held in connection with the upcoming elections in AJK.
The administration imposed section 144 in Kotli district and military and police contingents were deployed in the tense area.
The incident further aggravated the tensions between PML-N and PPP.
PM Nawaz Sharif’s Special Advisor Asif Kirmani demanded resignation of Azad Kashmir Prime Minister (PM) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, holding him responsible for the worker’s death in Kotli. “Azad Kashmir PM has failed to protect the lives and properties of the people. Instead of getting the incident investigated, Azad Kashmir wants to shift the blame on to PML-N,” he said.
