SC summons Dar, others in Ata ul Haq Qasmi appointment case
ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court (SC)  served notices on Saturday to the former officials allegedly involved in the illegal appointment of the literary giant, Ata ul Haq Qasmi as Pakistan Television (PTV) Chairman.

Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the then Federal Secretary Information Muhammad Azam and the then Secretary Finance Waqar Masood were asked to appear before the court on July 9 on account of approving salary, perks and privileges of Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi.

According to a SC press release, the SC directed that summons to Ishaq Dar be issued and affixed at his permanent residence in Lahore as he is reportedly gone abroad.

It may be added that the Supreme Court passed the order on July 5, in Case No 3654 of 2018 relating to appointment of Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi as Managing Director of Pakistan Television Corporation.

Earlier, literary giant, Ata ul Haq Qasmi, was summoned to the apex court by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar.

The directives were issued by the top court in a case pertaining to the ‘dubious’ appointment of the renowned poet as the chairman of Pakistan Television Corporation back in 2015.

During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, the top judge had remarked that Qasmi was appointed to the post despite that he exceeded the prescribed age limit.

The top judge had asked the political analyst to return Rs 270 million in the national exchequer so that the case could be shelved.

The large amount of compensation Qasmi allegedly received during his time at PTV caught the eye of Justice Nisar, who observed that the former chairman received at least Rs1m monthly.
