KARACHI – The Sindh High Court (SHC) was moved on Wednesday to remove the name of former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The plea was filed by Hussains’s counsel seeking permission for his client to travel abroad for treatment of his back ailment.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Ministry of Interior, and other relevant departments were made parties in the request.

On March 31, the SHC released Hussain from prison after 19 months after he furnished his passports that were being held by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in connection with another case.

Dr Hussain, a close aide of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, is facing several charges including corruption of Rs 479 billion and providing treatment and protection to terrorists at a hospital owned by him.
