The two under trial prisoners named Sheikh Muhammad Mumtaz alias Firon and Ahmed Khan alias Munna involved in sectarian killing and many other cases.

The incident happened when both militants were presented in the judicial complex adjacent to the central jail.

Following the negligence of officials, 12 police officials including the jail superintendent and deputy jail superintendent were arrested on the order of Minister for Law & Prisons, Sindh, and a case was also registered against them.

The Counter Terrorism Department had arrested them in 2013 following charges of target killing, including within the Shia community.
