World Sports Day on Wednesday

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The United Nations' (UN) International Day of Sport for Development and Peace would be celebrated on April 6 across the globe.

The International Day of Sport recognise the power of sport in promoting peace and erasing cultural barriers worldwide.The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace promotes healthy lifestyles and emphasizes the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) focus on giving as many people as possible access to sport.

Sport is a positive way of achieving goodwill, healthy competition and cooperation across all cultures.

It is day when some of the world's leading sports people worked together with communities to bring sporting opportunities to enrich lives, particularly children.

Organizations have used sporting events, such as the Olympic Games to bridge cultural understanding and improve education, health, economic and social development. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will celebrate the International sports day for development and peace in Pakistan on April 6.

The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) would also organize a official event to celebrate the International Sports Day.

The provisional programme includes the Badminton Match would be organized to celebrate the day with befitting manner. Debate on sports and award ceremony would be arranged on the conclusion of the ceremony.
