DUBAI (Web Desk) – Pakistan beat West Indies by 59 runs in the first day-night Test on the fifth and final day in Dubai on Monday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Windies batsman Darren Bravo (116) scored a marathon hundred to give visitors a chance of a famous victory against the number two ranked team on the final day of the second ever day-night test in the history of the game.
Earlier, Pakistan declared their first innings at 579 for 3. Bravo defied a potent bowling attack to score 87 during a 402-minute stay at the crease while Samuels made 76 as the West Indies closed on 315-6, still trailing Pakistan’s first innings total of 579-3 declared by 264 runs.
Shane Dowrich was unbeaten on 27 with skipper Jason Holder 10 not out at the close of play.
West Indies need to reach 380 to avoid following-on, but the duration of their innings suggests Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-haq may not enforce it and bat again on Sunday.
Captain Azhar Ali smashed a maiden triple hundred to put Pakistan firmly in control.
The match started at 3:30pm (Local Time) and 4:30pm (Pakistan Standard Time).
