Officially amazing: 155 sky-diving Santas set new world record for most tandem flights

SYDNEY - The world record for the most sky-diving Santas was broken in Sydney after 155 daredevils donning Saint Nick's famous red suit plummeted to Earth from 14,000 feet on Saturday.

RedBalloon rallied Bachelor stars, Survivor contestants and even reporters to help break the Guinness World Record for most tandem skydives in an eight hour period at Wollongong on Saturday.

Each of the 155 participants hopped into a bright red Santa suit before being loaded into a small plane, strapped to a skydiving instructor and hurled toward the ground - successfully smashing the previous record of 94 jumps.

A number was written on each jumper’s hand in order to help Guinness World Records officials certify each contestant had boarded and landed.

RedBalloon CEO Nick Baker said he was very pleased with the outcome, particularly after overcoming a change in the wind direction and subsequently the landing zone for participants.

“We're absolutely thrilled at the outcome of the attempt and to have achieved another Guinness World Records title,” Mr Baker said. “We broke the Guinness World Records title for the world's largest surf lesson last year and had such a blast that we wanted to do something even more thrilling this year.”



The event helped raise $5,000 for Camp Quality, a charity that helps put a smile on the face of children battling cancer.
