India claims setting world record by launching 104 satellites in single mission
NEW DELHI - India successfully launched 104 satellites in a single mission on Wednesday, setting a world record of launching the most satellites at one go, according to its space agency.

The launch took place from the Sriharikota space centre in east India. Of the 104, 101 are foreign satellites to serve international customers as India is aiming to tap more share in global space industry.

"This is a great moment for each and everyone of us. Today we have created history," said project director B. Jayakumar at the ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate on the launch conducted by the state-run Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) that went off smoothly and was broadcasted live.

Of the 104 small satellites, 96 belong to the United States while Israel, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and the Netherlands are the other foreign clients suggesting a better foreign policy of Pakistan's quintessential rival.

A majority of the satellites have earth-imaging capability and belong to a US company named Planet.

According to NDTV, Wednesday'a attempt is ISRO's second successful attempt after the launch of 23 satellites in a single rocket in June 2015. In 2014, the Russian Space Agency had launched 37 satellites in one go.
