NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Indian writers, poets and artists on Friday took to the streets to protest against the rising incidents of extremism and intolerance in the country.

According to Asia News International, the writers, who wore black scarves around their mouth, gathered out at Shree Ram Centre in New Delhi and marched towards the Sahitya Akademi.
They also held up placards that read ‘Salute to Prof. Kalburgi’.

Earlier media reports confirmed that at least 40 authors including Nayantara Sahgal, Ashok Vajpeyi, Sara Joseph andUday Prakash have returned their Sahitya Akademi honours in protesting the rise of intolerance.
