"Let's root out this macho culture": says Oakland Mayor after 3 police chiefs resign over sex scandals

OAKLAND (News Desk) - Following the back-to-back resignation of three police chiefs over sex scandals in just one week, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf has vowed wholesale changes in the department to root out this  "macho culture."

Addressing a press conference, he said: "I am not here to run a frat house, but a police department." He also said that now was an appropriate time to increase civilian oversight in the police department.

On the occasion, he also announced that City Administrator Sabrina Landreth would directly handle personal and disciplinary affairs related to the department.

The move came on the back of increasing public demand for a complete overhaul of the police department.

The recent resignation came after an 18-year-old girl's alleged that she had sex with more than two dozen police officers of the city while she was still a minor. The girl claims she provided sexual favors to the officers to ensure she escaped prosecution as a prostitute.
