"I'm with her": Obama puts his weight behind Hillary

09:32 AM | 10 Jun, 2016
WASHINGTON (Staff Report) - After remaining on the fence for months, United States President Barack Obama has finally endorsed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for this year's elections, saying that Clinton is the most qualified contestant to take over the White House.

In the three-minute endorsement video shared on the Facebook page of Hillary Clinton, Obama urged all Democrats to join behind Hillary Clinton and together campaign for her victory.

"I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office," the US president said while adding "I’m with her, I am fired up, and I cannot wait to get out there to campaign for Hillary."

Hillary Clinton was also quick to announce her first rally with the president, who had earlier defeated her in the party's previous nomination race in 2008. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will lead their first joint rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Wednesday.

Obama's endorsement for Hillary Clinton came just an hour after his meeting with the other Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders. Media reports suggested that Obama had urged Sanders to unify forces with Clinton to strengthen the Democratic presidential campaign during the November elections.

Bernie Sanders was also promised a central role in shaping the Democratic agenda for presidential election against Republican candidate Donald J Trump.

However, ignoring Obama's call, Sanders has vowed to continue his campaign until Democratic National Convention next month.

Meanwhile, he has also announced to soon hold a meeting with Hillary Clinton to discuss the possible ways they can work together to defeat Republican nominee Donald Trump in the presidential elections.
