Trump reignites hopes of historic meeting with North Korea's Kim Jong-un
WASHINGTON -US President, Donald Trump hinted at the possibility that a June 12 summit with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un could still take place, just a day after he canceled the historic meeting citing Pyongyang’s “open hostility.”

Trump indicated on Friday that the summit could be salvaged after welcoming a conciliatory statement from North Korea, saying it remained open to talks.

“It was a very nice statement they put out,” Trump said as he left the White House to deliver a commencement address at the U.S. Naval Academy.

“We’ll see what happens, it could even be the 12th. We’re talking to them now. They very much want to do it. We’d like to do it.” added the tycoon-turned-president.

While the Trump administration had insisted on North Korea’s complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantling of its nuclear program, Pyongyang had always remained cautious in terms of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Before Trump unilaterally scrapped the meeting on Thursday, North Korea said it had completely dismantled its Punggye-Ri nuclear test facility “to ensure the transparency of discontinuance” of nuclear testing.

The North Korean leader had also crossed the border to meet South Korean Leader earlier this month, where both agreed to pave way for peace in the region. However, in a dramatic turn of events, North suspended talks with South Korea, citing latter's joint military drills with the US.
