UN transfers $32m for Yemen's anti-starvation campaign

NEW YORK – United Nations has transferred funds of 32 million dollars into Yemen anti-starvation campaign from its Central Emergency Response Fund.

Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock and the Executive Director of the World Food Program David Beasley announced the contribution at UN Headquarters.

The UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the funds will allow Word Food Program to ramp up humanitarian logistical operations, including increases in humanitarian air cargo, transport more humanitarian workers and expand emergency telecommunications in Yemen.

Yemen has been in a state of war since 2014 and the UN estimates that, out of a total population of about 28 million, as many as 13 million may be at risk of starvation if the war continues.
