WASHINGTON (News Desk) -The United States’ European missile defense shield will be made operational despite Russian warnings that the move would threaten peace in central Europe.

U.S. and NATO officials will declare the shield operational at a remote air base in Romania.

A NATO-based envoy of the U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter told reporters that we now have the capability to protect the NATO in Europe.

He, however, insisted that the system was aimed against general threats, dismissing a perception that it was targeted against Russia.
