Dr Asim calls Owais Muzaffar Tappi 'a corruption king' in leaked video
KARACHI (Web Desk) - Former federal petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against PPP’s Owais Muzaffar alias Tappi, accusing him of being involved in all sort of corruption in the current Sindh government.

The former minister said: “Owais was involved everywhere where there was corruption,” adding that Tappi had become a "shadow chief minister of Sindh".

The 80-second ‘confessional’ video clip emerged last night on almost all TV channels, and is apparently an edited version of a much larger video, which went viral on social media.

Filmed during the course of Dr. Asim's interrogation, the video shows him claiming that Owais Muzaffar was raised by the mother of the former president of Pakistan and PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari.

"Owais was involved in corruption pertaining to lands and the purchase of vaccines," he added.

“At one time, a doctor told me that vaccines worth Rs. 600 were purchased at Rs. 1000,” Dr Asim said. “When I investigated the matter, it turned out that the doctor was right,” he stated.

Dr Asim claimed he had complained of the matter to Asif Ali Zardari. When Owais Muzaffar came to know about this, he threatened him, he added.

Dr Asim himself is under arrest and standing trial for corruption. He has been accused of providing medical treatment to terrorists and has also been involved in a Rs. 462 billion corruption scandal.

The former federal minister is currently in the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Karachi. He was first arrested by the paramilitary Rangers on charges of corruption and facilitating terrorists in August 2015.

Before he was handed over to NAB, Dr Asim remained in police custody for a short time and was given a clean chit.

Though a number of alleged confessional statements of Dr Asim have been leaked by law enforcement agencies and NAB in the past, this is the first time a video has been released. NAB officials, however, have neither confirmed nor denied the existence of the video.
