RAWALPINDI – One policeman was killed and another injured in a firing incident at a checkpoint within the limits of Banni police station on Saturday.

The firing was opened by unknown assailants, who were on a motorcycle, on Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi, leaving the two police officials injured.

They were shifted to the Holy Family Hospital for medical treatment where a policeman named Head Constable Arif was pronounced dead. The other official is under treatment.

Following the incident, CPO Rawalpindi reached the hospital to inquire about the injured official. An investigation has been launched into the matter while the attackers are still at large.

Earlier this year, two people were killed when two rival groups opened fire at each other in the compound of Rawalpindi’s district judicial complex.

The incident took place outside the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar after a suspect under police custody came under attack by an armed assailant, Express News reported.

According to police, the suspect and the attacker both sustained serious bullet wounds after the latter was also fired upon by the associates of the former in retaliation.
